Hotzenwaldhaus

The earlier Hotzenwald people protected themselves from the harsh climate of the area by providing their houses with roofs which pitch right down, almost to the ground, and with an insulating corridor (the "Schild") which runs around the house between the outer wall and the living area.

The name "Hotze" comes from the narrow-pleated, black breeches which were traditionally worn by the men of this area in the 19th century.

In the Hotzenwaldhaus you will find the "Loft of Childhood" - for children, a room in which to poke around and play; for parents, it is a room in which to reminisce. With its puppet theatre, fairytale room, shadow play, hall of mirrors and much more, it’s a dream come true for children!
