Schwarzwald Freilichtmuseum Vogtsbauernhof

Falkenhof

The Falkenhof was built in 1737 in Buchenbach-Wagensteig in the Dreisam Valley near Freiburg im Breisgau and was used as a farm building until 1976. In terms of the division of rooms, it is the last building of this kind - a so-called Zarten house - still standing in its original form.
The house came to the museum with the changes made by its previous owners.

The stalls in which the museum keeps ancient breeds of livestock were renovated in 1956. Right next to the farm you will see a meadow for the Vorderwald and Hinterwald cattle and an open area for the pigs of the German Landschwein race.

In the Falkenhof stalls you will find information about dairy farming in the past.
A light installation in the main bedroom demonstrates how over time technical developments in light sources gradually brought brightness to Black Forest houses.
